I was wondering if anyone knows who is playing steel for Gary Allan? I saw the concert last night and I could not see who it was because they had him set up behind a tall speaker. I'm sure that Brett Day knows who it is. He is our virtual encyclopedia of steel player knowledge on the forum.
(We need a section titled, "Ask Brett" don't ya think? )
How about it Brett? |

Brett has come through again. I do not know how and where he gets all this info but maybe we do need a "Ask Brett" section on this forum. He certainly is a special young man in many different ways. I hope one day to meet him personally and I definitely want to hear him play. I believe he sure is an inspiration to all of us steel players today. |

Before joining Gary in 1996, Mike Fried was the steel player for a band called Wylie & The Wild West Show. He played a Sho-Bud steel guitar until 2001 when he started playing GFIs. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel |

Holy cow, Brett, you need to write all this stuff down!
Here's one for you, back in 2000, who played steel with Brad Paisley? Before Mr. Curie joined up. His name is Jim, something, I forget, but I was playing lead guitar in a band that opened for Paisley and Jim hung with us after the show, great guy, had lots of advise for a young musician.

Ben, that was Jim Heffernan who played steel with Brad before Randle joined. He played a ZumSteel D-10. Brett, Emmons S-10 |

Dang, that's right, Jim Heffernan!!
That's like the movie City Slickers, "Who played third base for the Mets in 1972?"

Hey Brett, do you also happen to know what kind of steel Rob Turner played on Allan's Alright Guy album? It has a delicious tone, especially on "Adobe Walls" [This message was edited by Chris Lasher on 21 June 2004 at 03:43 PM.] |

Haha, Brett, you're great! I think you should help write an up-to-date version of Winnie Winston's Pedal Steel Guitar. [This message was edited by Chris Lasher on 22 June 2004 at 05:49 AM.] |
