Anybody know what kind of guitar Stu was playin on the "Old Friends Play Old Time Gospel" cassett? the guitar sounds great, and I don't beleive I've ever heard such quick pedal action on a steel before. He makes several quick B pedal licks(high G# and several quick A pedal licks. I'd just like to know the brand of guitar he was usin to get that lightening fast pedal action.

It wasn't the brand of guitar, but Stu's ability, that made those licks possible!

Amyway, I'd guess it was his Mullen?

Wrong!

Thanks Smilley. I thought it said Franklin on the guitar on the cover of that cassett, but wadn't sure. it's a dark brown, or rosewood maybe. I love the tone of that guitar also. of course Franklin guitars are right up there at the top of the line in my book.

Donny, Stu's playin abillity sure nuf shows on "old time friends play old time gospel".
I'm not takin away from his abillity at all, but I do think certain guitars have faster pedal action than others. my emmons don't pedal that fast, and I got perty fast feet.

I'm not judging anyones choice of steel-brand. I've chosen Franklin ever since 1980, however; just my opinion concerning Stu's sound. I haven't heard anyone come close to the great sound of Stu Basore when he's working the Opry with Guest-Artist, Mandy Barnette. That is a sound that I call ‘Gutsy’, beyond comparison! And he's not playing a Franklin now!

Well come on Big John, don't keep us hangin, what's Stu playin now?
He done an awsome job on the tape I mentioned above. I'd still like to know how he makes those quick little licks on "Power In The Blood".
Hey Smilley, reckon you can find out?

Stu Basore played a Franklin for several years. Last year he came to play for us at the Louisville Steel Club. He was playing a ZumSteel. Stu is a forumite and I would defer to any corrections or other remarks Stu would like to add. I agree he is absolutely a Monster player and would sound great on any guitar he might choose to play.
At our club, he and Boogie Sherrard played "Jammin' With Jimmy" and knocked us all out. Before the set ended, they had to do an encore of the same tune before they could leave.

I will tell Stu that you guys are interested in his sound and guitars. It is true that he played his Franklin on our first album,
"Old Friends Play Old Time Gospel". His second album was "From Nashville to Dallas" and he was still playing the Franklin. The third album was "Way up on a Mountain". He now plays a Zumsteel and uses his Franklin as well, but it is hard to tell which one he is using. You are right, he does have a unique sound and touch, and you will find he is a very congenial person and would be glad to answer any of your questions. Thanks for the enquiry. I'm sure he will be pleased.

To all who are interested, I am so pleased that you have taken an interest in our album, "Old Friends play Old Time Gospel". We really had a ball doing it and,as the title says, we have been together for many years. Hope you all keep us in your thoughts and kindly keep it "Country" because that's where it's at. (I didn't mean to end with a preposition, so I'll say, 'Keep it country, because that's where it's at, good buddy!'
