I have just heard that Randy has not been invited by Scotty to play the St. Louis show this year! I dont understand this as Randy is certainly one of todays top players and has taken the E/9th. to another level. What is required today from a player to qualify for this show and satisfy Scotties critique? It certainly isn't the fan base as I personally know that everybody that has been to one of Randy's performances or heard one of his C.D's can't wait to hear him again. I'll bet that if a poll of every member of this forum were taken as to what pecentage that are attending the St. Louis show would vote for Randy to be on the show it would be very near 100%. I would like for each of you to join me in this effort to rectify this by E-Mailing Scotty direct or posting on this forum your feeling about this.
Thanks, Ben Jack

Ben, I don't understand the process in detail, but I do know that there are many more players worthy of playing the ISGC than time allows. Many great players have to take turns every year or two or three before they get to play again. I believe that Randy played there last year so maybe he'll be there again in 2005. Just a thought. Randy is very well liked and respected as a person and a player so I'm sure there isn't anything funny going on. Any time I've heard his name mentioned at Scottys it has always been with words of utmost respect and kindness. Personally, I wish he was playing again this year too.

Randy is a great player, one of many greats who will not be performing at the ISGC.
There are only so many slots. I've been disappointed with some decissions, but I am convinced that Scotty and the rest are doing their best with a difficult job.
Perhaps DVA needs to add this subject to his list at http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum15/HTML/006541.html
Anyway, it's not an Event or Announcement so I'm moving it to Steel Players.

As a surprise bonus, my car's stereo displays the titles of Randy's songs! It does that for all MP3s, but this is an audio CD. Cool.
(My wife's Dixie Chicks CD is the only other one I've seen do that.) |

Ben,
There are alot of deserving players that never get asked. I know of 10 or 20 myself.
You should have been in Chattanooga last weekend, "You would have gotten your ears full" of guys that never get asked to perform in St.Louis. |

Well, guys, Randy will certainly be at Tulsa this weekend to blow some more socks off. You probably still have time to make it, well maybe many of you still have time to make it. Shoot if you get there by 11:00 AM Saturday you can hear me. I guess I am considered a local guy.

Randy Beavers is an exceptional player and a true master of the pedal steel guitar...anyone who knows anything about PSG can and would attest to that. I personally try to attend any show Randy has a part in and yes I would like to see a performance at St Louis this year. In the same respect, whether or not Randy get's an invite to St Louis, he is no less a master and he will not go away. The level of which he has taken the steel guitar is unmistakeable and he is an encouragement to all of those younger players who want to achieve and be accepted into the music industry as it is today. Remember... for the steel guitar to continue it's acceptance in the music industry today, one must know how to make it evolve and fit into the new sounds that are so popular today. Randy Beavers is one of the greats who can help make that happen and insure that the steel guitar is heard to it's fullest for many years to come. And since I know Randy Beavers on a personal level I can assure you that invited or not to the St Louis show will not make any difference whatsoever to Randy with respect to what he will be doing in the music industry down the road.

Randy knocked my socks off in Dallas as well, and being the gentleman and friend that he is, he picked them up, had them laundered, and returned them to me. However, they didn't match when I got them back... one is black and one a dark navy blue.
I put them on Emmons style, not Day, of course.

Taking advantage to say Randy is one of the players that is playing in a fresh, creative style that stands out in the maze of steel guitar music played (and I love them all)! |

I am sorry to hear that Randy Beavers isn't going to be playing at the ISGC this year. I heard him last fall in Ohio and he sounded incredible. Lots of Jazz out of an E9 tuning. [This message was edited by Bob Watson on 28 May 2004 at 03:15 PM.] |

I've already 'posted' elsewhere just how impressed I am by this great 'new'( ) talent.
He's the best I've heard since I rediscovered Tommy White a few years back - as accomplished as they are on C6th, both these players have somehow 'liberated' the E9th tuning. I'm busy stealing stuff off Randy's new CD right now! Last time I felt this way was when I got Tommy's 'By Request' - thanks to both of you.....
