Our own Eric West, regardless of how controversial he may seem, has become the top Dawg in Portland. There are many fine players in our area, but recently there's no doubt that Eric (aka: Ear-ache) has been getting all the gigs. All the top players continue on with their (not-so-steady) gigs, but Eric seems to get the call for all the other stuff. I don't know how things are in other towns, but here in Portland the gigs are drying up. What scraps are left seem to be gobbled up by "E.W." and his Sho~Bud. As the brotherhood we strive to be, I wish to congratulate our fellow forumite for his ongoing presence in the community. Bottom line: Steel needs to be part of the equation for any C&W nightclub scene, regardless of who sits behind our 4 legged beast.

Not a bad way to put it, Doug. I've not heard Eric's playing, though I'd like to, but if he's spent as much time honing his playing as he has with his writing, he ought to be at least interesting, and often enjoyable, to hear! And yes, it's good to see ANYBODY getting gigs these days (as long as they're not running a karaoke machine!)

Oh My God! My Worst Nighmare...

Acclaim..

Maybe it's just that I can hold a bad check longer than most...

Maybe it's just my Motivation:

Spite.

Four bands in four weeks.

I remind myself of a girl named Mooney Thompson in High School.

Don't ask why..

Now with my new NV112, I can triple amp, and with the pod, I can turn all the reverbs up to ten and get FORTY.

What then..?

Once you get past the reverb on 40 you will find one great commerical steel player. Doug Jones, Harley James, Robin Suskin, Dale Granstrom, Pete Burack, Ray Montee and I are all humbled by his greatness.

Bye your leave, your steelness

Eric West? Great, I'm glad he's busy! I'm his biggest fan. What is all this controversial stuff? I agree and appreciate everything he has ever stated on this or any other forum. If he plays great too, like everyone says, this is just another feather in his cap. However, if he didn't play a note, he'd still be #1.
He could make a living being a comedy writer, along with at least a dozen other things from Harley Davidson mechanic to heavy equipment operator. This guy is what I call, well versed. And a nut to go along with it!

This is another perfect example of "I wish that all my favorite forum contributors would post a sound clip/MP3, so I could associate some music to the musician"!

Eric is one of the guys here that I've always suspected of steel monstrosity.

How 'bout it Eric? Let's hear a clip!

My Steelness Indeed!

Larry, Skip, Robin, Harley, Doug, Pete, Dale, et al are way above the crap I've been able to sell around here. Don't let Mr Behm fool youse.

I have a bunch of CDs that I've been on, and some older 45s, but haven't done anything "solo" to speak of that I can find. Most of them I flip out the car window after I hear them..

I'll look around some more.

I find that people are easier to fool in a live setting..

Bobbe, especially after listening to your CDs, I find myself in a special awe of someone I might have mentioned in a humorously slighting way in some unthinking 5000 word post..

YOU'RE the MAN, as far as I'm concerned.

I appreciate the courtesy, and even being thought of as "Controversial" among such a collection of reclusive, idiosyncratic, grandiose, and colorful denizens of our Community.

I think the only one I can think of is "How in the WORLD does he get away with it"?.

I expected b0b to interject the question of what this post had to do with "Steel Players", but I guess he's over in Off Topic passed out somewhere..

Thanks All.

Two weeks at the Flying M in Yamhill OR, and Jubitz on 20,28-9 May, and 25-6 June. 3,4 Tippy Canoe 10-12 Sisters Rodeo,Gresham Eagles Jubitz etc etc. On til Sept in that fashion one way or another...

Now that the local Truck Stop has fallen prey to a DJ I won't be doing 5 niters inbetween weekends like I have with different bands this year. I was getting too old to do that and work 50hrs anyhow....

A lot of the time it's been quantity over quantity. I play with damn near anybody that asks, and a couple times I've even asked...

The Public is always welcome.

No digital cameras, dog collars or glo sticks please...

(just kidding)

Yes, for the most part, I think there are plenty of steel gigs floating around here in the Pacific Northwest!
I'm gonna have to make it out to one of Eric's gigs to check out that new amp.

Unless it's already been claimed, I think the steel seat is still open for Memorial Day Weekend at The Flying M with these guys:
