I was recently listening to the Eagles album "One of these nights" and there is a song called "Hollywood Waltz" that has some nice pedal steel in it (the liner notes say 'steel' and I assume this means PSG). The liner notes say that Bernie Leadon (one of the original members) plays this. Does anyone know anything about his background in PSG? For example the type of PSG he used? Was his tuning E9 or C6? Is he still playing today?

I have the "Hell Freezes Over" tour DVD and Bernie plays steel on a couple of songs on it. He is playing a Sho Bud, sits in a regular chair, and uses no picks. He doesn't do anything outstanding but what he does sounds really good. He also plays guitar and mandolin.

I believe that the "Hell Freezes Over" tour was actually Don Felder. I don't think that Bernie Leadon has had anything to do with the Eagles since his departure in the 70s. If my memory serves me, he played a single neck Sho Bud from time to time. A Tele with a string bender, and banjo , too. Al Perkins is on their version of "ol 55"

The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" concert was a video on PBS as a fundraiser several years ago. Don't know who the steel player was, but I suspected he was not wearing picks. Thanks for the confirmation.

Unless Bernie Leadon sat in with them somewhere along the "HFO" tour, Don Felder was playing steel for the Eagles. He also played slide guitar on some songs, as did Joe Walsh.

I don't know what he used on the recordings, but Bernie used a ZB on tour with the Eagles. It was a single neck E9, and I remember that there was something weird about it that made me sound like an idiot when I "sat in" with them like maybe it had 11 strings or backwards pedals or something.

The HFO tour DVD/Video was the post Bernie, post Randy Meisner version of the group that existed about 1976-1982, my least fave version of the band.

Buddy Emmons apparently did the Hollywood demos with the group before their record deal, Al Perkins supposedly played on the early albums. Bernie had some sort of stringbender on his guitar, I honestly don't know if he had a steel.
Don Felder a buddy of Bernie's played non pedal and standard guitar, he joined in 1974, this was while Bernie was still in the group.

According to Bernie, he only played on Best of my Love.

What was I thinkin', it was Don Felder, not Bernie Leadon that played on the HFO DVD. Oh well, that Old-timers disease is sitting in pretty hard here lately.

Accidentally KOOS BIEL (the Netherlands)was at the store and SCotty asked him to demostrate the steel and backing the ballads.
and YES a "DREAM came be TRUE" Koos did played on that STLOUIS-SHOW with his hero's
