I just had a big surprise when I found out thta Webb recorded "Slowly" four times!

The first recording is dated April 21, 1952, number two comes from July 15, 1952, both have Jimmy Day on Steel - they were never released at the time, Webb wanted to keep the song for later!

No. 3 was recorded July 30, 1953 and has Bob L. Moore on Steel Guitar (is this the famous bass player Bob Moore?), also unreleased at the time.

No. 4 was recorded November 29, 1953 - that's the famous one with Bud Isaacs on Pedal Steel!

Interesting stuff - found in the Bear Family Records Webb Pierce Box (4 CDs).

Kind Regards, Walter

You know it's funny (or maybe not), but I have never heard the song at all. I know of it, what it triggered and all, but never heard the song.
Any mp3 download arround?

J.D., you can listen to it here...

at the "Record Lady's" site. It's on the "Real Country Archive" Page 10. While you're at it, listen to "More and More", also by Webb, on page 8. In some areas, this song (though released later) was considered better and more popular.

I'm pretty sure that Bob Moore the steel player and Bob Moore the bass player are two different individuals.

Thank you all for the links. Now that I listened to it, think I have heard it in the past but never realised that this was the one. I am astonished as to how well Isaacs already used his new tuning in that "first" song, I expected something more crude just doing the pedal up and down thing over and over again (which is sertainly present, but there's is more).

Thanks! ... J-D.

Who is doing the steel work on "Slowly" by Sharlene Hooper on the same page with Webb Pierce's version? Not too bad either!

Walter, the Bear Family session details are not always correct. I've seen numerous mistakes in them; Merle Travis listed as steel player on Hank Thompson sessions, Buddy Emmons listed on Justin Tubb sessions, which do not have steel guitar at all, etc. Most likely there never was a steel player named Bob Moore on Webb's sessions, it's just a misprint.
