I have a new Zum Steel, and am looking for some advice on String selection from you guys who have had the experience. I'm looking for that fat, full, warm sound. So the choices are many, nickel, steel etc. and of course the manufactures, SIT, Jagwire, Emmons,Cobra, the list goes on, and the wound VS solid on the 6string. Currently I'm using the Emmons setup, with the following: 12,15, 11,14,17,20,26,30,34,36 in Nickel (Jagwire)which I like pretty well..any comments will be appreciated, Thanks |

Hi Richard, I'd use a .013 on the 1st string,a .020 plain on the 6th string, and a .038 on the 10th.Everything else you have there is fine and dandy. |

Richard, what didn't you like about the strings that came with your new Zum? Is your Zum new out of the box or new to you, that was previous owned? |

Richard, I think a Zum has about the same string requirements as any modern all-pull. I think any nickel strings will give you the fat warm tone you seem to want. I'm cheap and lazy and use stainless steel strings on my '96 Zum because they last longer. As long as you are using the Jagwires, try the 0.0115 on the 3rd string. To me they sound more balanced with the other strings, and they last a little longer without breaking. |

Thanks so much for you interest..and response. Gary, no, this was a used steel..so, I don't know what Bruce ships with his guitars..thats why I was asking.
So it looks to me like I will use the nickel strings..and make the approporiate switchs as you indicated..apparently then you guys are not partial to any particular manufacture of stings.
Thanks for all your help.. |

Richard,
I use Jagwires on my Emmons Legrand's for me the stainless works just fine and stay in tune. Intonation is a must for me and the Jagwire string does the job. If they work for you--why change?
