after trying a lot of things in order to learn how to play, and not finding any contnuity in any of them . i recently heard about Jeff Newmans "up from the top" course . have any of you learned how to play using it . from the description i read, it seems like the kind of step by step progression that i am looking for . meaning ... master this step before going on to the next one . as always i value your input

I Strongly recommend all of Jeff Newmans "Up From The Top" The A&B pedal,E Lever,F Lever courses are the best and easy to understand almost made for the absolute beginner and Intermediate student.Jeff teaches on a very eye to eye level.Although Jeff is now playing for the Lord in the Heavens, you'll understand why this man was a master teacher.Tony

I have most all of the courses with the exception of 2 of his courses. One being the "Minor Chord Connection" and the other is "Give Me An Intro." I started out with "Up from the top" and it is a great course but having it to do over I would have started with "Pedal steel guitar techniques" as this course is for the absolute beginner.
I kind of do things bass akwards and I ended up getting the technique course after going through the up from the top course.
You can learn from that course but as you stated that everything you've been learning is kind of all out of place and not in any type of order and the up from the top course takes it that you already know certain things where the technique course starts you out at the beginning.
After going through the technique course I was surprised at how much I should have known before moving on.
I will tell you that in every course that I have, if you don't know the scales, you will learn them and they are a must in order to progress.
All of Jeff's video courses are great and you can learn from all of them.
Jeff has passed on to a better place but his methods for learning are well in place and they work.

I had Jeff's "just play the melody" and "no speed limit" courses, and they were great.
"just play the melody" will help you understand chords, and scales, and where their located. the video, tab book, and tracks are very helpful.
when I can, I'm goin to get "the F lever, and the "minor chord connection".
NOBODY, can teach steel guitar like Jeff Newman.
