Friends,
I am still shocked by the sad news that, but I thought I'd post a soundclip for us all in memory of the great player Jeff Newman. I didn't have enough webspace left on my Website, but my fellow bandmembers graciously agreed to provide some space on our official bandwebsite. This clip is rather big (6,21 MB, Real One Player). It's Jeff Newman live at the ISGC in St. Louis in 2003, paying tribute to Jimmy Day with "I Love You So Much It Hurts" and he was really playing his heart out on that one. The track is over five minutes long and I promise it's worth the download time (highspeed connection users shouldn't have any problems, but you have to download, streaming does not work!). I recorded it with portable Minidisc equipment. I hope it works for you to download and listen.

On the website, go to sounds and scroll down to Jeff Newman. I know this all is a little bit improvised, but I wanted that available for you all.
I will keep that clip on the website for a couple of days, feel free to download it and save it as a treasure by the man, Jeff Newman
Kind Regards, Walter

Thanks for this Walter. I heard this live on the Internet and having listened to a lot of the Convention, I thought that Jeff's playing on this clip was for me the highlight of the whole Convention. It's great to have this memento....IP

We knew Jeff as "The Steel Guitar Teacher" but we forget he had attained a level of playing that many will never reach and this clip shows his mastery of the instrument. I'm sure many of us will never turn loose of the videos of him we learned off of and I for one, will purchase more of him to remind me of this great talent gone forever. |

I have received a couple of e-mails where the download didn't work. Please try to right click the link that Basil provided (that's the correct one, thanks, Basil!), download should start immediately and you should be able to save it to your harddrive and open it after download completed.
Hope that helps!
Kind Regards, Walter

Just wanted to let you know that the clip is now also available on the rebel and ricky site. Go to
http://users.interlinks.net/rebel/steel/steel.html
and go to the Jimmy Day/Jeff Newman memorial site they just created, by the way, that's a very moving tribute to those two legends of the steel guitar.
Kind Regards, Walter

I just wanted to let you know that I have taken the Jeff Newman Soundclip off my website - the link (that Basil provided) is no longer working, but the clip is now available at the Rebel & Ricky Site
http://users.interlinks.net/rebel/steel/steel.html
By the way, shame on me for not knowing about that fantastic website so far - was I the only one? Probably yes!
But just in case, you didn't know about that site, check it out, there's tons of info, tabs and soundclips. The work that was invested to do and maintain this site can't be appreciated enough!
Kind Regards, Walter
