Does anyone know who played steel on "When The Tingle Becomes A Chill" (recorded in 1974) Was it Hal Rugg?

Is there a particular resource (on-line) that would help me find things like this out?

Thanks in advance.

Whoops! Just found it on Rebel and Ricky's site. It was John Hughey.

I'm still eager to find a place to look up musicians on recordings. If anyone can help, that would be awesome.

John did a lot of steel work on Loretta's songs. When Loretta is performing live, Charlie Archer is playing steel. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel

I just spoke with John - He said that was Hal. The only thing he played on was the Conway/Loretta stuff.

Walter Stettner has a site that gives many steelers on many songs. Give this a try Lawrence. (Look under Info/News): http://www.austriansteelguitar.at.tf/

Thanks Leroy and Rex (and John, of course)!

I just switched on my Website from Hal Rugg to John Hughey and now back to Hal Rugg. I think that Hal played on all the big hits of Loretta with the exception of "Fist City" which has Pete Drake. The very early stuff of Loretta has Don Helms playing.

Isn't this Forum great? You have a question about "Who Is Who" and usually get the first hand information (plus interesting stories) within a few hours! Thanks to all the Forumites!

Kind Regards, Walter

Thanks for all of your responses. It's really awesome to be able to get information, albeit secondhand, directly from the source.

Loretta had both Don and Hal sharing the solo on "My World Ended Today" on the "Blue Ky. Girl" album. At least that's what it sounds like to me. Pretty cool of Owen Bradley to let them get away with that.

I have a 1998 Austin City Limits tape that has someone named Curtis on the steel. I don't think it is Sonny Curtis.

Hal used "The Tingle" in his Loretta Lynn Medley on his "Altered Ego" album from the late 1970s.
