I appreciate Randy Beavers musical approach to the steel. His touch, expression and tone are just superb. Mike Smith, Mike Johnson and Randy Beavers are three excellent musicians in presenting the steel in a fresh and innovative style. Looking forward to hearing Randy at the TSGC in Dallas next month. |

Im looking foward to hearing Randy's new album. I was fortunate to hear him play Sunday, and his approach to E9 knocked me out.
To my ear he is taking a jazz approach combined sweetness of the E9 neck. Go see this man if you get a chance. I think he is a unique world class player.

I'm starting to get excited about the new album. Ideas that have been going on in my head for the last few years are starting to come together. Hopefully I'll have it available within the next month. |

Now that Randy's let the cat out of the bag about his new CD, I'll just add that I had the privilege and pleasure to get a sneak preview of several of the tunes recently and this CD is a knockout! Randy is one of a very, very rare breed of cutting-edge steel players and everything that he has to say musically is exquisite. I can't wait to get a copy myself; it will be a very long time before it leaves my CD player (if ever).

Jimbeauxt,
I too was blessed with a short preview of
this great piece of work.
Myself like many others cant tell if he is playing E9th or C6th.Randy gets more C6th
voicing out of the E9th tuning than anyone
i've ever heard.
Jim,i say we kidnap the man for awhile, not
to worry Judy,we'll bring him back unharmed.

Ya know, I saw Randy the first time he played at the St Louis Convetion. What you must have been 13 or so? I talked with you and you were quite nervous about your performance of course. You were, even at that stage, a better player than most in attendance. You did great. I have admired you every since. I don't know you, but from the good things posted here you must be a great person as well a fine musician. THANKS!

I got to see Randy at the Mesa show and was very impressed. Randy is super talented with his own ideas and a gentleman to go with it. I've become a real fan and can hardly wait to hear him play again. |

Randy played the Chubby Howard Show in Dayton & I have never heard any more control over ones instument than he had that day. Super super tone & great technic.
Randy needs to play out more so we can enjoy him more often..

Everyone is Jumping on the Robert Randolph bandwagon to name him as the saviour of the steel guitar.
I personally thing its foolish to put all of your eggs under one hen to hatch.
Randy Beavers, I believe is the future of Steel Guitar, He is a super player technically and his touch and tone are superb. and I never one saw him kick his seat over this past weekend.
Maybe Randy is too nice a guy to draw the attention like RR gets. But he sure gets my attention with what is heard and not seen.
Okay off my Soapbox now.

Randy could retire if he could bottle that precision and tone of his. I bought one of his CDs and one for a good friend. 'Mountain Dew' is worth the price alone. His guitar picker is monstrous, too. |

Hello Al. I think I was 14 the first year I went to St. Louis, so that would have been 1970? I remember it was at the Holiday Inn, west of town.
I was a Lloyd Green and Tom Brumley fanatic, and I got to meet Lloyd that year. I know I probably slobbered all over myself talking to him, but he was very kind, and a true gentleman.
That was also the first time I saw Buddy Emmons. I can still tell you what he played that year. I had a small hand held cassette recorder, and did I ever wear out those tapes practicing to them! Buddy had come in with Darrell McCall and his band and they did a 4 hour set on Saturday night. The songs that I worked on for the following year were "Exodus" and "When They Ring Those Golden Bells." That caused me to start lowering the 6th string a whole tone.
Ron Elliot also made quite an impression on me. I had met him a year or so earlier at a Jack Green show. He and their guitar player, Bobby Whitman, came out to our house and Ron showed me some nice E9th stuff, and showed me what I could do if I lowered the 10th string a whole tone. I may need to put that back on my guitar. But to hear him play his own material at St. Louis was a total knockout.
As far as what I played that year? I was too scared to remember. But I think I played Tom Brumley's "Tom Cattin'" and Lloyd's arrangement of "My Elusive Dreams."
