I've been in the steel repair business for some 24 years now and in that time I've attempted to fix 3 Fender 8-String Keystock Dishes. The first two I was generaly not real happy with although they worked.
This one done for Ben Franz in Australia I am very proud of! So check out the site if you wish: http://www.scottysmusic.com/images/keysocket.htm
Lots of cutting, drilling, filing, etc...easier said than done.

Good job, Don! Wouldn't it be great if Allparts made repro "lollipop" tuners for these type of projects?
Hey, Don. Didn't you build a S-6 lap steel with a Bigsby palm pedal? That guitar was COOL! |

Thanks guys, an "attaboy" is nice for the old self esteem once in a while.
And yes, I did build a steel and still have it, probably always will even though everyone knows that I desperately need my 9 Pedals and 7 Knee Levers to do a gig.
I've never played the 6 String Universal out but hope to some day, maybe in a "Retro-Rock-a-Billy" Group.
It's tuned E, B, G#, F#, E, B
The Bixby Palm Pedal is like the A&B Pedals and I can instantly re-tune to E Tuning, A6, B6, C#m7, B11, etc...way cool!

Don, that's a beautiful dish! It must be worth a great deal, with that much hand labor into it. Have you ever looked into producing them, or getting some produced, i.e. by someone with a big press?

Don,
I've dealt with you years ago, and you're still the man.
NICE.
