Are there any recordings of nonpedal and pedal steel on the same tune, trading breaks? I think this would be interesting, sort of in the vein of Shot & Budddy's album, only with lap & pedal steel.

Gary,
Pete Drake and Little Roy Wiggins did a tune together called "Starburst", great stuff!
Also, Carl Smith used two Steel Guitars on several of his Columbia albums in the 60's, don't know who played on these (probably Curly Chalker?).
Vernon Oxford used no less than THREE Steel guitars on some of his early RCA recordings in the late 60's: Lloyd Green, Weldon Myrick and Big Joe Talbot. One of the songs was "The Blues Come In".
Let's see what else comes up!

Gary,
Buddy Emmons and Shot Jackson recorded two albums featuring Buddy on pedal steel and Shot on Dobro. The first recording is an old Starday album and is very good.
The second one was titled "Two Aces Back Together Again". And it is even better. Since you asked, you owe it to yourself to try and obtain either or both of these albums. I am sad to say they are becoming increasingly hard to find. But they are worth the effort.

I played a Shobud Pedal Steel and a Fender T-8 Stringmaster within the same song; on two songs on Dale Watsons' "People I've know and Places I've Been" CD project.
It is way cool.

| Jerry Byrd has done this at least once, if not several times, with a couple of different Hawaiian steel players. Perhaps Jeff Ah Hoy could give us some names, maybe? |

If you wait till March, and take a trip down to Quitman GA. on a Friday night, you will hear Ernest Cawby and myself do "Steel Guitar Rag". I was so sick of playing that song until I played it with Ernest. He played his lap steel and I played the Emmons. We only did it that one time, but I've had a craving for it lately. I can't wait to get back there again.

I have a Shot Jackson/Bob Lucier album, which I got from Scotty's - forget the title now, something to do with "Sailing"? Also I believe Jimmy Day and Herb Remington's album "A Day With Remington" (?) was pedal/non-pedal...

Yes, a Cd, "For the Last Time", Shot Jackson and Terry Crisp...
Plus, Scotty and I will be doing our "live' duet on March 21st at the Indy Steel Guitar Club featuring John Hughey.
Scotty plays his 6 string long scale frypan and I play my new GFI ULTRA D-10.
It's a good set even if I say so myself.

Raymond; Remember recently I sent you a tape containing Jerry Byrd on Hawaiian Steel (non-pedal) and Nashville–Picker Wayne Hobbs (PSG) recorded back around '80 when Wayne was playing Steel with Don Ho. The album was the Disco-Stylings of Nohelani Cupriano. I've never given that idea much, if any, thought! Maybe I'll make that part of my own next little personal project, now that I've purchased a better recorder! “Big John”

The first tune I really did a good PSG part on was the latin lapsteel tune that convinced me to get the PSG. I did Sho-Bud chords and an intro lick, but the theme as Supro.
I really like the difference in tone, they are quite distinct. |

| Bruce Clark has a sampler on his QumQuat record lable that has a very nice version of "Pan Handle Rag". The pedal Steel is playing chords and a non pedal is playing the lead, sounds great. |
