Driving home from a gig, I heard the portion of the Friday Opry with Connie Smith. Connie sang "Darlin' Are You Ever Coming Home". What a combination, Connie singing and Russ Hicks on steel. The intro the turnaround and much of the fills were on steel, and Russ played and sounded awesome. Don't know what equipment he used, I presume a JCH steel, I just know what I like.
It's not often that the singer and the accompanyment combine to transport you away from your immediate surroundings (in my case the inside of the cab of a S-10 pickup truck) to a place where the song and the story in the song "come to life".

As you can tell, it is difficult for me to find the right words. Guess I will just say that it was the epitome of classic country music, and it was flawless.

Hey John L......I just read your post and was so moved by your comments that I printed it and took it to Connie to see....She was so happy that what she does could mean so much to a fan, and so was I.
Thanks again,
Russ H.
