Hi Guys!
Just wanted to say "Hello" and let you all know that I'm glad to be a member of the Steel Guitar World! It is very difficult in Europe to get information (no matter if you need serious technical advise, just gossip or other interesting and essential pieces of information) about the Steel Guitar and the Players. My admiration and sincere thanks to the person who first had the idea of creating the Forum and, of course, Bobby Lee and the complete staff who make this thing work and run smoothly! This is my permanent link to the Steel Guitar World!
I have been sitting at the computer for over two hours right now, posting a comment here and there, also learning the sad news about Speedy and Bob, and I will stay here for some more time - definitely!
If somebody is interested, I also have my own website under www.austriansteelguitar.at.tf
Best Regards to you all!
Walter

Bob,
Thanks so much for the warm welcome!
I heard that question a lot: The term "Busker" means something like a street singer in British English, taken from a songbook called "100 Songs for Buskers". We have chosen that name for our band because we started our "career" out on the streets, playing some outdoor gigs...

I have the distinct feeling we're gonna' hear a lot from Mr. Stettner. I just toured his website and his historical background, and photos are absolutely superb. You'll be missing a lot if you don't take the time to visit his internet place.
Walter, welcome to the Mecca of Steel Guitar Ongoings.

Walter: I remember a picture that was published in Fender/Fretts magazine back in the '60s. It was of another Austrian steel guitarist in a typical classical setting with a piano and string quartet (?). I no longer have the issue as it was sent away for historical preparations but I recall it because I got in trouble with the OSI in Germany over that issue.
Fender always forwarded letters received for me to my USAF address in Germany. I replied to the gentleman via the German post who reported it to the OSI who called me in for questioning. I never paid any attention to the address when I sent a thank you to him and they wanted to know who I knew behind the Iron Curtain. When I replied no one, they really got onto me.
I had to prove I was a writer for Fretts and that I wasn't using my ration cards to buy whiskey or cigarettes for black market activities. The fact that I had never used my ration cards for either of those items got me off the hook but I still felt like I was being followed for months after that as I went around France and Holland and Germany playing band jobs.
I also recall returning from a job in France that was cancelled because of the Kennedy assasination. I stopped at the border into Germany and they asked; in German if I was a German citizen. My father grew up in that country and raised his family in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country so I was sort of fluent in the language.
I replied in German that I was an American and out came the guns and I had to unload all my music equipment and open it up to show them I was for real. It was an experience one never forgets as the times were very tense.
I hope you have as nuch fun and learning as I do on this Forum. It is a wonderful place !!
