Glyn, Welcome to the Steel Guitar Forum. There is a wealth of information to be had here.
Do you happen to know, or know of, a pedal steel player by the name of Pete. I can’t remember his last name but I think of him often. He was married to an Australian lady moved to Australia after being discharged from the U S Navy in about 1978, give or take a year of two. Before his enlistment ended, he bought a D-10 MSA. Being a huge Curly Chaulker fan, he had me switch necks on his guitar so it would be setup like Curly’s MSA. C-6th on the front, and E-9th on the back. He was a tall gangly kid and one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. If he stayed with it, I assume he would be quite good by this time. Does this sound like anyone you might know in Australia?
I know this is really a shot in the dark. It reminds me of times I would be hitch hiking back and forth to Norfolk Virginia as a young Sailor and nice folks that would give a ride couldn’t understand why I didn’t know Bobby Joe, who was also stationed at Norfolk.
My thanks and once again, Welcome.
Leon

Thank you for the welcome Paul, I have noticed just how very helpful the people of the forum are when `newbies` come up with a query....this is fantastic and I look forward to chatting with as many as possible......it is very hard when one has been `away` from playing for such a long time........my chops and technique on PSG and Tele are so rusty I have had to spray my hands with WD40 !!!!!!!!! lol

Hello Leon..nice to hear from you and thank you for the welcome......unfortunately I am unable to assist re- Peter......the only Peter I know is short , fat and balding...and he couldn`t even pick his nose much less a guitar !!!!!!!! But HEY! I think I know that Billy Joe guy you mentioned....I`m sure I saw him in an episode of `The Dukes of Hazzard` some years back.....hope this will help those kind people who gave you a lift find him hehehehehehehee
