I put away my steel in 1981 because of work and family, and promised when I retired that I would take it up again. Well after 34 years of teaching I retired in June of this year. I bought myself Jeff's "Up from the Top" set and am in love with steel playing again. My goal is to get my stuff together and get into a bar band and enjoy music.
I am playing a ShoBud SuperPro D-10, 8/6 with Bill Lawrence pickups, through a Music Man 115 with JBL K-130, and a Goodrich pedal. Joined the Forum and am heading to the P.S.G.A. show in November. I am back and lovin' every minute of it!

Go for it Bill,
I did about the same thing in 79,but I don't think I can take the smokey bar scene anymore,just bedroom and hobby pickin at jams and such,having fun tho....

| Welcome back to steel, William. I did the same thing. I quit around 1977 - went back to school, started a career, had a family ("The whole catastrophe," as Zorba the Greek said). I'm a ways from retirement, but I started playing pedal steel again a year or so ago. Now I play in a couple of bar bands. Lots of fun. |

Me too. That's what I did. Had a double neck sho-bud, quit playing in 86 to raise a family and start a career. Now look at us, guys, we've come full circle. Think how good we'd be if we hadn't quit. On the other hand, its a great excuse for the way I sound.

William I did the same thing after not having played since 1958 until last spring when I got my old steel out and discovered I might still be able to make music with an ol steel guitar. Now, I am having more fun with it than ever and realize that this instrument has the power when played to keep me young.
