Hey guy's I have studied everything Paul has ever put out, from way back in the 70's ( you know the talk tapes from Mars music ) to right up to now this instructional video. the nice thing is you get to see what is going on.watch it close and pick it apart, it is great. the cool thing about the way paul go's about teaching is he is giving all the imformation to you so you can develope your own licks within his style of playing. Not to be a Paul Frankin clone but the best you can be. Does this make any sense? Paul is a master and for him to give his time to help us along is fantastic. I have had the video about three weeks now and learned everything on it in about three day's but now I go back and start to find all the things and the places it takes you to. Boy I hope this makes sense!! Get the video and look beyond....Thanks Paul... Billy..

Thanks for the review, Billy.

I've always found Paul's instructional material to be of the highest quality. It always put me off at first that there was no tab included. That's just Paul's preference (although we have seen him write tab right here on the Forum ). What I've found is twofold:

1. The stuff I've learned from Paul's tape and CD material has been the most 'portable' of anything I've learned. He doesn't really teach pockets, but I find new ones when I study his courses. Mike Smith is the only other one whose instruction has taught me as much (or more) about how to use ideas to create new solos as how to play certain licks or patterns. That's powerful medicine. Learning licks is fine, but learning how to apply patterns or ideas to anything you might play in the future is much more valuable to me.

2. Because he doesn't tab it out, I tend to memorize it first, rather than going to the trouble of writing it out myself. I do eventually write it down, but, by the time I do, I know it inside out.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, Paul. We greatly admire and appreciate your style, professionalism, and approachability. I can't tell you how much I appreciate folks like you and Buddy, among others, spending some time with us.

Now I gotta order that video . . .
