I think this is the first time I have ever posted in Steel PLayers.
My mate Warren Nielsen...I met some thirty years ago, when he was playing about an hour down the road from me......I was at the point of giving up the steel...getting nowhere..he invited me down the following week-end for a jam and a few pointers.
As I was leaving my house to go down I slipped on the stairs and broke my foot....but my waggon was Auto so I went anyway....thats how much I was impressed by his willingness to teach me something!
I even drove down the coast with my foot in plaster the following week to hear him play....only to see the Bass player doing a pretty good impersonation of me on my crutches !!!!
Warren an I have been mates ever since....
I know a lot of people on this Forum know him from his once a year visits to St Louis and his wanderings there...also he has played the main show I believe.
My reason for this post is that he went to St Louis this year...wandered off to somewhere like Virginia to see friends, and has now stopped off in Ireland to stay with Forum friends..Anne Marie and John Okeefe......I fixed for him to meet them in St Louis a couple of years ago....then they met him again when they came here this year.
They have borrowed an Emmons D10 Le Grande which he has restrung....and I do believe he went to Church last night and backed the choir on it.....got to play "How Great Though Art"as a steel solo.....did the Intro and backing whilst Anne Marie sang Amazing Grace.
Sounds like he is having a ton of fun.....although he is not a member of this forum I know that he has many friends here...just though they would like to know.
Anne Marie will show him this post.
Aint this Forum Great !!!!! |

Ole
I had the pleasure of having a beer with Warren in St Louis this year. He told me that although he will be in Ireland he will have left before the Irish festival takes place.
Regards
Mike |

Guys!...thanks for your replies. No need for me to say G'day to him for you as Anne Marie will show him this while he is still in Ireland......but I'll say it to him when he gets home for you anyway!

Warren and I have known each other for about 10 years. We look forward to seeing each other each year in St. Louis. He is a very fine person and equally as good a PSG player as he is a person. We have enjoyed a few laffs together as well as some good music. I am sorry I did not make it to the ISGC this year. I missed seeing him as well as some other friends I have come to know at the convention. Happy trails Warren.

First thing tomorrow I have to take Warren out to buy a bigger hat for his swelled head!!!!!
Nah not really but he says hi to all of you and thanks for your nice comments.
We're having a lovely time here with him......we've done some sightseeing, visiting and we've had friends round to meet him. Tomorrow we plan a jam in our local pub. The only down side is that the time is flying past, next time we're going to keep him for a month!! |

Cricky Anne Marie, where would you get a bigger hat?,he's got ahead like a boarding house pudding. Take good care of him mate, he is a treasure.
Like you said Tony, Warren helped me immensly too and nothing was a trouble for him.We have become very close friends over the years and Warren has travelled the several thousand kms to Darwin on quite a few occasions to go fishing and play steel.
The thing I most admire about Warren is the way in whish he gets his priorities straight. For example he sold his big house and bought an appartment next door to the local PUB. What a man. Luv ya mate. |
