Two months ago I told you a story about a blind boy in my church who I thought could learn to play the steel. As it was imposible for his dad to go out and buy him one, I'm proud to say that some very generous fourumites came through and now Jonathan is the proud owner of his first (new) steel guitar. I would personally like to thank George Wixon who donated the Maverick Sho-Bud. He also went and shipped it to Canada to be overhauled, and when that was completed he paid to have it shipped here to me in Az. I would like to thank my friend in Canada who totally made over the guitar. He completely dis-assembled it, polished and cleaned all the parts. He took the covering off the guitar and got down to the original wood, sanded it down and varnished it. ( why in the world did Sho-Bud cover beautiful wood with such an un-atractive piece of covering, I'll never understand. You all know this generouse man and one who I'm proud to call a friend. His name is Wayne Brown of out west country pac seats. He and George also included a junior seat for Jonathan. As you can see from the link, Jonathan is a happy camper. http://www.outwestpacseat.ca/Jonathan.htm [This message was edited by Hap Young on 08 September 2003 at 07:30 AM.] [This message was edited by Hap Young on 08 September 2003 at 04:21 PM.] [This message was edited by Hap Young on 08 September 2003 at 05:57 PM.] |

Wonderful story! The community outreach stories I've heard about many of you steel players is very moving. Clearly, some have gone those extra miles, and inspire us all to do more (for the right reasons).
Thank you for sharing. By the way, the name you mentioned didn't surprise me in the least. (if we had a little smiley face with a halo, I'd insert it here).
GREAT humanitarian love!!

My compliments also to the ones responsible for giving this deserving young man a steel guitar.
Now...I have a question. Do all of the Sho~Bud Mavericks that are covered with vinyl have such nice wood underneath? I'm with Hap...why in the world would they cover such pretty wood with the covering?
Now I've just gotta get a Maverick to take the covering off of it and see!!!

Me and George have recently become pretty good friends. Met here on the Forum. And then met, live, at the MASSBASH.
George is a smarty pants. Knows a lot about
BIAB. And knows even more than you can imagine,
about ever thing else!
Keep an open eye. GW has a very informative site. And George is, for now, capable and willing to be pretty much ONE on ONE.
GW knows his stuff.
Thanks Y'all......

Bill,
Thanks for your concern, but his dad being a musician has enough amps. He just got a fender deville amp w/ 4 10 in speakers He said Jonathan could use that.As you can see from the smile on Jonathan's face , he is in hog heaven.[This message was edited by Hap Young on 10 September 2003 at 07:11 AM.] |
