Since I took my vacation on the west coast this year I missed the St. Louis show (again).
I just got my copy of Lloyd's new CD, wonderful of course, but did anybody record at the Convention this year? I know Scotty has offered recordings from years past. Does this occur each year and how about DVDs? I'm sure forumites would gladly dig down and pay the fair price to see and hear our heroes in hi-res and in stereo.

While sound recording is allowed at the show (which continues to surprise me) video is strictly forbidden. There will be no DVD's. There's lots of tapes around , but to my knowledge, No offical recording available. And i think it would be unwise for those who tape to start selling them, if it is to continue to be allowed.

I was going to ask the same thing...And I agree that they shouldn't be "sold" by people who did make a recording of the weekend.
However, if anyone out there happened to record Buddy's sets via computer/internet (or anyone elses for that matter) and wouldn't mind burning a copy, I would be happy to provide the cd's and postage for return shipment to me....
Does anyone think that THAT would be against any rules?

You are ABSOLUTELY right John. The recordings are only for the ones that were there and spent the time to make the recordings.
If people start selling these or even making mutiple copies, it will force us to stop offering hookups to our recording mixer and I would hate to see that happen.
By the way, great seeing you again.

Good seeing you again too there Bill. A great mix again as usual-the tapes I did make sounded killer.
Seems like we have this discussion every year-the taping is a personal consumption thing only. It's quite generous that it's allowed at all, and like Bill, I would hate to see that end.

I guess I just don't see the big thing about swapping something that was free to begin with...It's not like we're burning of copies of copy-written material. I'm probably gonna get flamed here, but I'm just expressing my thoughts.
I was unable to attend due to unforseen circumstances both financial and timing wise, and I didn't have access to hooking up via the net. From what I heard, it was limited on volume of hookups anyways so I probably couldn't have gotten thru if I wanted to.
If someone made a recording of Emmons' set and was kind enough to send it out I would be most grateful. I would do the same for someone else. Video taping and SELLING copies are one thing, but to me this is totally another...IMHO.
Hope I didn't open a can of worms, but I've seen cans opened for topics less worthy of discussion...

Bob,
It is not my place to say whether you can share what you recorded off the internet. You would need to take that up with Micheal Scott and steelradio.com.
My only concern is that NO ONE sells any of this great music.

I think what we're trying to say here is this: Sharing a copy with a Buddy who couldn't make it is one thing. I don't think anyone has a problem with that. Advertising on the Forum that you have tapes and will burn copies for any and all comers is another, and a bad idea. I'm sure everyone knows someone who has tapes of some of the sets-Heaven knows there were enough machines running-and obtaining a copy quietly shouldn't be that hard. A trumpet blaring, flag waving, 200 post thread on tape trading would likely bring down the other foot, so to speak. It's one of life's little hypocrasies we all have to learn to live with.
If it sounds like there's some tap dancing going on here, it's because there is....Yaknowhatimean Earl?
