Did anyone notice this pre-war B-6 with a missing plate and replacement tuners going for $810?

Then again, it seems like a bargain compared to a less-than-mint 1934 Regal/Slingerland Cathendrola that is currently bidding for $1750.

Cathendrola? Isn't that Spanish for "overly expensive fauxbro?"

I guess value is in the eye of the beholder ...

Yeah, the Regal is kind of a (bad) joke. It is kind of sad though, to see the Chinery collection scattered to the wind. I'm not an advocate of collecting/hoarding, but Scott was a bit different from your average collector. He made his collection accessable to the masses with his books. I think he was planning to open a museum when he died.
Oh well...no we can at least look at the backs of these things while they're on eBay.

Man! I always wondered what would become of his collection. Chinerey was sometimes tasteless in his marketing approach to acquire instruments but the guy had a singular vision and he developed an unparalleled collection that was housed in museum-quality surroundings. His vision included access to the collection by players and teaching the public about the heritage of these instruments. This is really too bad. That collection belonged in the smithsonian.

Actually, I saw some of the Chinery collection in the Smithsonian a few years back -- part of the Blue collection and part of the vintage electric collection. Incredible. I wonder if the Smithsonian was approached?
