Someone has emailed me regarding a trade. He has a white bakelite rickenbacher with red knobs, no date. Anyone seen one of these? Would this be a student model and not worth as much as the other style bakelites? Thanks, STEVE

It is either an Ace ... or an Academy.

Both are student models and generally go off in the $250 - $300 range on Ebay.

The Academys have horseshoe magnet pickups and are flat out GREAT especially for the $$$. String thru the body, molded nut and bridge ...

The Ace has that molded handrest ... and although some of the ebay sellers say "theirs" has a horseshoe pickup under there ... the couple I have seen just had conventional style pickups (or I would have bought them).

I have seen brown, red and white ones ... I even saw one that was blue cast Al ... still kickin' myself for not gettin' that one.

Here are my two ... my Ace is a "leftover" Academy that got an Ace sticker put on it ...
