I just listened to Jim's new CD, and all I can say is BRAVO. This is one of the best steel CD's I've heard in a very long time. It is something every forumite will enjoy.

Jim is a master player. One of our finest. He can play country, jazz, rock, whatever, and he does it all on this CD with style, taste, and great authority

I have to say, that there is a short vocal on "Nights In White Satin" that I personally don't care for, and I wish the song was all instrumental; but aside from that momentary lapse, the entire CD excellent, and an essential addition to every steel guitar entheusiast's library.

Way to go, Jim.

I have a personal rule that I never listen to a recording about which I'm truly interested in hearing, unless and until I have time to listen intentently from beginning to end without interruption.

Although I received Jim's CD about a week ago, it was not until yesterday that I had the time and opportunity to listen to it.

I enjoyed the recording from beginning to end, and I congratulate Jim for not only his exceptional ability as a player, but his very unique and personal playing style.

Jim selected a few songs with very musically complicated melodic composition, and played each one flawlessly. His intonation was supurb as was evidenced also when other instruments, which are "fixed pitch", were playing melody at the same time.

The use of different instrumenation throughtout the recording continually provided a fresh approach to his interpretatation of each song.

I applaud Jim for his willingness to push the musical envelope and for playing his music his way from the heart.

AND....those who acquire Jims recording will get a kick out of seeing the picture on the CD itself, which to me says a lot about the man himself.

When I finally recognized what it was, I'm sure those around me while stopped at a traffic light wondered why I was laughing so hard while in the car by myself.

Congratulations Jim for a job well done.

. . and as great as the performance is, the CD artwork is deluxe. but, Jim, I'm nearly afraid to turn it over and look at what the artwork might be on the bottom of the CD!!

Jimbeaux, now I know the truth. Russ's picture tells it all. I've always wondered how you get all the tone you possess into your head. It's not through the normal manner---the ears. Heck, you absorb it through the "scalp". Nothing to block it out or even slow it down...

...Move over I'm close behind....Hope it has the same effect on my playing as it had on yours.

If it made Reece laugh at a traffic light I'm sure I know a couple of guys that are ROTFLTA'sO.

Haven't received my copy of the CD yet, but it's on the way.

Jim, I haven't heard your new project yet, but I really enjoyed your previous one! I do want to say how much Tommy and I both like your VERY clever and amusing, yet tasteful cover! Was the halo over your head real - on your last cover - just wondering. Great picture and layout on both!

Well, thank you all! I'm very flattered to read the comments above.

Reece: you know, of course, that I consider your teaching and mentorship to be pivotal in my musical development and I'm aware of this every time I play. Thank you again for all your support over the years.

Mike: Thanks for always being a supporter of what I'm trying to do, pal. And, I'm sorry that my vocal debut didn't sit too well with you, but a couple of Tylenol ought to put you back on the right track.

Russ: Thanks for previewing some of the tracks along the way and giving me your feedback. I need more friends like you. By the way, don't turn the disc over. I think it's got your face on the other side!

Fred and Al: I'm hoping you'll enjoy the sequel as much as you did "Finally Here". Thanks for your ongoing interest!

And Donna, my dear... I know you've got a good eye for design and do great work yourself, so thanks for the nice comments. You should know that all credit for the design of the CD, the tray card, and the booklet goes to forumite, Mike Ihde. He was great to work with and I recommend him highly to everyone for future CD projects. Wait till you see the whole package! I know you'll get a kick out of it. Reece hasn't seen the whole thing yet either: I thought that would be best because I didn't want him to have a traffic accident!

All in all, I'm very proud of the new CD and do feel it represents my best work to date. It also has several other awesome musicians on it (keys, horns, etc.) and I'm also very proud that my 14-year old son, Jonathan, plays alto sax on one tune ("Tenor Madness"); his first recording session!

Enjoy!
Jimbeaux

One more vote here. Like Mike P. said in the opening topic, Jim plays a nice variety of tunes representing several genres, and I'd say in better-than-acceptable tone. Hey, and I think the vocal in "Knights" is great. Mike Ihde plays some nice guitar breaks too. It's a keeper. Thanks Jim.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the nice comments.

Donna, yes I'll be at St. Louis this year, with copies. I definitely want to hear Tommy's new one too, so we'll do a swap, ok?

My set is scheduled for 3:40pm on Thursday. Thanks for asking.

Well, received "Four to the Bar" today and really I'm not that surprised. I expected nothing but super music from this group and that is just exactly what it is.. Reece called it when he said it was "expanded." All I can say is WOWEE!! He's done it again. From Western/Texas Swing to just whatever you want to hear. Jimbeaux, a super effort and tell your boy he's a "blower"...That from a cat that played Licorice Stick and Tenor for 15 years in the French Quarter in N'Awlins.

I was fortunate enough to hear the "rough" mix on "Nights In White Satin" at the Chat. show.(BTW,if that was "rough",the "final" has to be a KILLER!!) Jim's got another customer right here! Can't wait to hear the whole album.
Any chance of gettin' a pic of the CD "cover" on the forum??

I just now received the jewel case and cover, which Jim didn't yet have when he sent me the CD.

"The waiter survives"? Jim, you should be ashamed of yourself.

I haven't listened to the entire project, but the cuts that Jim sent me were totally phenominal, some of the best jazz arrangements for steel guitar that I have ever heard. And the steel tone is a light year beyond acceptable....

Hi Jimbeaux,
Congratulations. A job well done. Your playing is excellent, great tone, in tune, interesting, and clean. I think the best thing is your production. Each tune is well thought out and you and your guys play excellently and capture the mood of each piece. Was Surfer Girl from a previous session, as that was the only tune that wasn't as smooth as everything else? However, all your hard work is paying off, as your playing is top notch. A very enjoyable album, good work.
