Hi folks! I just got my membership authorization today and this is my first post, so bear with me for a minute while I tell you a little bit about myself. I have been in music most of my life in some form or another. I have played bass guitar for about 40 years and have always been a fan of the steel guitar. So, just recently (about 4 months ago) I bit the bullet and bought an old steel and have begun to try to learn something about playing this thing! I probably have waited too late in life to tackle such a project, but I'm having a blast trying! Might not ever be any good but I'm having fun in the process. I have an old MCI D-10 with 8 & 4, a N1000 that I bought from Bobbe, and a Profex II. Not all new stuff but enough to keep me busy for a while.
I have tickets for the ISGC for Friday & Saturday, so maybe I'll get to meet some of you fine people there. Then I can put a face with some of your names. I've been lurking in the background here for a while. Long enough to learn that this a very valuable resource for the beginning steeler.
Anyway, let me get out of here before this gets TOO long. I'm very glad to be here and I hope to be interacting with some of you soon. I feel like I already know some of you from seeing you on here so much. [This message was edited by Bobby Sparks on 19 August 2003 at 09:12 PM.] |

On second thought, "Steel Players" might have been the wrong place to put the info about me but, trust me, I use the term VERY loosely!! |

Bobby, I'd like to welcome you to this great community! I always enjoy reading the stories of other musicians, especially those who ultimately take up the pedal steel guitar!
For what it's worth, I have a page on my website dedicated to the instrument.
Click: http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/DUNC3051/
and then my name.
Best of luck and if I can help you in any way, let me know!

Welcome aboard, Bobby.
Knowing which board to post on is not an exact science. The moderators will put it where it belongs if they feel like it's out of place -- and they'll tell us all where they've moved it to.
It's great that you're going to Scotty's. You're in for a real treat. See ya there!

Welcome aboard from a fellow struggling newcomer and MCI D-10 owner. What kind MCI is it? Metal or wood necks? Range Expander? |

Nicholas...it's an early '80's Waco model (according to Bud Carter). Wood necks. In very good condition, though, considering its age, and it's black so we know it has good tone! I'm not familiar with the range expander so I can't comment on that. |

Welcome to the asylum! Started too late? Nah, you are never too old to play pedal steel. This is a valuable site with links to tons of other stuff. The best thing you can do is find someone locally to guide you. You've got great equipment to learn on...
Good luck!

Welcome aboard Bobby. I've been a member a short time here and I hafta say I'm spending way too much time finding gold nuggets in these threads and posts. I've been with the steel since 1963, off and on, and only recently decided that it was time to undertake all those "delayed gratification" issues that I've been planning for, one of which is to finally get "good?" at the PSG. There are links here that we'd have given arms and legs for 30 yrs ago. The tablature that is available is tremendous. I wanna learn it all RIGHT NOW, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!!
Where else do you get to hobnob with the captains of the instrument?
A D-10 w/8&4 Huh? Great "Starter" set. (Pardon while I drool a little.....)

Welcome Bobby. Good to hear that you'll make the ISGC. I predict that you'll come away awed and inspired. |
