Does anyone know who the stand up steel player was with Faron in the mid fifties?
I seen a picture of Faron and his band circa about 1955 and Faron had a stand up steel player. No name was under the picture.
Thanks,
Dave Burley

Well, if it was ca. -55 and with Faron's own Deputies, it's most likely Joe Vincent. If it's an earlier picture from Faron's Circle A Wranchers time, and if I remember correct, the guy's name was Ken Woodfrin. Not 100% sure 'bout that, since I don't have the BF box set book here right now. I'll check back later on.

In 1957, I saw Lloyd Green at the Opry with Faron, He was playing a Rickenbacker w/ a Shot Jackson pedal, I wonder when he started with Faron?, Also, that was the day I ordered my #3 Sho-Bud from Shot & Buddy, Buddy had recently started w/ E.T. & snuck me back stage at the Ryman, au

Faron came through California in '59 and Big Ben Keith was playing a blond Sho-Bud and they put on a great show. By the way, the bass player was introduced as Donny Young who later became Johnny Paycheck. Skeeter Davis and June Carter (before Cash) was in the show that helped round out a great show.

I have spoken w/ Joe Vincent on several occasions,& he has,all but,TOTALLY DIS-ASSOCIATED himself w/ the steel guitar world.
I've tried to get him to come to some of our NTSGA Jams.....no luck. The same goes for Keyton Roberts.

It's to bad Joe doesn't play anymore. I used him on the JACKIE PHELPS session I produced and he played great. I never released it. Also I used Walter Haynes and Paul Franklin on some of Jackies sessions. I have never released any of them- Maybe I should. I also have the Master of a Jackie Session with Chalker that was never released. I have considered doing a CD of these sessions and releasing it but never got around to it. Ed: It strikes me as curious that you haven't taken all those "never released" things you have and release them as a CD titled: "Gone To The Dogs" with all proceeds going to your efforts in that area. With your name recognition on this Forum and the many of us who have and love pets, you might find a hidden pot of gold to assist your worthy endeavors in this direction.

Regards, Paul

Releasing the JACKIE PHELPS CD may be a doggone good idea. How about this idea- for starters I do 100 Tapes and 100 CD with ALL THE PROFIT going to help the animal cause.I could care less about money{I don't have any} but at least it would possibly get some attention for Steel Guitar and "Real" Country Music. I have considered this in the past but haven't had time to do it. What if I used a opening cut of "DOGGIE in the Window"???? Give me some ideas. ED

Ed: I'd check with Patti Page and Jerry Byrd before you do the Hounddog In The Window thing. They may have prior committments on that number. But maybe the one with a basketbal nose....You know what a basketball nose is, don't you ?? It dribbles all over the place ! From Homer and Jethro's funny remake of the same song.
