Hello all,
My F150, my Williams and I are traveling from Brooklyn to Louisville for a recording session there, and I'd like to see hear some steel guitar other than my own if possible during my stay. Anybody in the area playing or any recommendations?
Thanks a lot! |

Hey,
What recording studio you "cuting" with?
There is a LOT of steel players in Louisville.
Stop in and see Charlie Stepp in Brooks, Ky, about 12 miles South of Louisville on I-65.
Take the "Brooks" exit..(of Course, Stupid)
And look him up in the White, Yellow, Blue Pages. I don't know, just call him. He will let you take a walk through he Place of buissness.(Derby Steel Guitars)
He can give you all kinds of phone #'s to steel players there.
Ask for "Boggie" Sherrard. THe only person I know of that will blow your mind using a GUITAR PICK. That's all he uses. Killer player.
Good luck. |

Gerald:
If you happen to run into steel man Clyde Coffey in Louisville, tell him to get in touch with his old buddy from the distant past, Roy Ayres at royayres@earthlink.net

Buddy,
I thought that was Ron Browning playing there.
Or was that the Lincolin Jamboree where Ron is playing? Jerry Overstreet playes somewhere in Louisville I think. THere is about 25 Steel players that are active in the "Bluegrass State" |

There are several Louisville cities....If you mean the one in Ky, see my post on events and announcements...The club circuit has pretty much dried up around here so I am told, I've been off the circuit so long.... I don't know of a club where you can have a beer and listen to some good country music around here anymore.
Some jamborees though...Hiway 44 country in Shepherdsville has a steel as does
West Point jamboree in West Point Ky so. of Louisville on Dixie Hwy [31].
Corydon Jamboree off I64 in so. Ind and another one in so.Ind that I can't think of right now...
Ron, about all I do is the Fri night jams and the ocassional steel club thing/
