I'm travelling to NYC this weekend. Been up there a fair number of times for my day gig in the last 8 or 9 years.

I've been to the Iridium to see the Les Paul Trio maybe 10 times, been to some jazz clubs in the village to see some obscure sorts of acts, been to a blues joint on 3rd Ave about 82nd street? for a jam session, but I've never seen a steel guitar player up there.

Maybe I just don't know where to look....

Any ideas? I'll be free Saturday and Sunday, and flying home Monday night.

Thanks to y'all for any clues.!!

Tonight (sat)

For country music you gotta check out "The Lonely Samoans" at the Bowery poetry club. (Bowery st and Bleeker st across from CBGB's) Gerald Menke is playing steel. I usually play steel with them but I'm out of town.

Also Jimmy Nations is on the bill with Skip Kevens on steel

Well it's too bad you can't hang around on Monday and/or Tuesday(well maybe you can)...cause Dale Watson is at the Rodeo Bar on the 7th and 8th...yeee haa.
My Friend Don Pawlak took my place in the band on Steel and is just Tearin' it up....and the whole new band is sounding mighty fine.

Just ask anyone on the street in New York.
They'll tell you where to go.

Is Dale travelling with a full band? Is he, [gasp] possibly going to tour with a steel player? Inquiring minds want to know...!

Thanks to everyone for your responses.

I did go to see Russ Wever playing in the Hank Williams Lost Highway show, Sunday night. It was a great show, and Russ does a phenomenal job...! If you get a chance to see this show, don't miss it.

Thanks again to all!
