I subscribe to emusic.com and I downloaded a Don Edwards CD titled My Hero Gene Autry. I was surprised to find that Tom Morrell plays on the CD. It's a terrific CD and I wonder if anyone else has discovered it.

It came out a couple years ago. I saw Mr. Morrell and Mr. Edwards play here in Berkeley at the Freight and Salvage coffeehouse when that CD was released. It was a warm up gig for playing later that week at Gene Autry's birthday party.

The audience seemed to be split pretty evenly between wannabe cowboys and cowgirls and the steel guitar playing population of the Bay Area. Tom Morrell was excellent!

I was at the actual show at the Autry Museum where the CD was recorded--I'm a huge Don Edwards fan in addition to Morrell. He had his triple neck Bigsby. The sound in the auditorium was excellent, but they played really quietly--the recording came out great, likely due to their lower stage volume. I assumed Tom was using his C6 neck, but he informed me that the pickup on that neck wasn't working so he used his E13. That was when I realized that the tuning doesn't really matter, the player does. There's no doubt in my mind that Tom could have done the gig tuned to H flat demented minus! I've got some even more obscure Morrell too!
