I've got an 8 string post war Rickenbacker bakelite.
The pickup is a 7 polepiece that doesn't catch the low string. Its sounds absolutely fantastic but I would like to be able to use all the strings.
Any ideas/reviews on replacement pickups ?

If you want to E mail me with info instead of posting I will respect your privacy.

Thanks, Bob

Bob, Rick Aiello and Jason Lollar are the guy's to get intouch with. Rick has a modified 1.5 Ricky horseshoe that should bring the outer strings into the magnetic flux lines better. I have one, but I haven't got my homebuilt right yet. Rick, sorry for dragging my feet, your the best!!

I pulled the pickup out today and messed with it a bit. There is an 8th pole piece on the edge that was covered with the crud that fell off the pickup. The wax is dust for the most part now. I got the thing working and its sounds great.
I'll be buying a new pickup/bobbin from Jason in short order.

thanks, Bob

These old ferrous slug pole pieces can be badly oxidized (along with the accumulation of alot of gunk).

When I get a new "oldie" ... I take one of my wife's fingernail emory boards and gently sand the tops of the slugs.

Kinda like givin' a Christmas tree a fresh cut before puttin' it in the stand.

Bob Rick and Jasons pick ups sound great.

Rick I had a great time visiting you, and wading through a 3rd of your collection on my way to St Louis. And your playing is MUCH better than you tell people... You should get to St. L. next year and play the Hawaiian room fo' sho'.
It really got me in Hawaiian mode and also the very nice best of Andy Iona cd helped too.

I got to St. L and played with Ricky Davis and twice with Chuck Lettes the second on the main stage, and the visit with you made me much more on the mark for this genre.
I also had the pleasure of playing with several other fine players there, but some of it was a blur... a fun blur.

Bob check out Rick's pickups his steels sounded great and he knows his stuff.

David, that was a real fun day for us ...

I hope your sister-in-law weathered the "sandstorm". That evenin' I went out to clean the back deck and it seems the two 3 yr. olds decided to move all the sand out of the sandbox into the pool. I'm sure the two 1 yr. olds did their best to help too.

You will have to come back to play the postwars ... I just picked up another one last night.

Maybe next time you will be able to stay longer and we'll have a Luau or somethin' ... put alittle Polynesian into this Pasture

Thanks for the kind words and the visit ... It was a real treat for me and the girls.
