Hi SGF:

Living here in southern Oregon sometime allows me to meet some very interesting people and when such a person is also a steel guitarist, it's icing on the cake.

Such in point is steeler Wilbur Glidewell.

I met Wilbur a few weeks ago having learned thru the grapevine (from other local musicians) that he may have played with country singer Lefty Frizzel at one time during his playing career.

It wasn't important to me if Wilbur ever played with Lefty; in fact, I've never even asked him about it. The real treasure of this man is his personality and his love for our instrument.

Here are some photos I took of Wilbur playing his 1991 Sho-Bud pedal steel this evening (Tuesday, April 22nd) at a country jam session at the Rogue River Community Center in the City of Rogue River, Oregon.

Wilbur was at a disadvantage this evening with his playing. There were too many jammers on the bandstand, the music was too loud and Wilbur's tone from his "bass" amp (not a steel guitar amp) just wasn't there.

But none of this is important because when I look at Wilbur Glidewell, I see a real "steel guitar treasure."

If you have run across Wilbur in your past, please post some commments under this subject thread.

I'd like to learn more about this man and share it with all of you.

Hi SGF:

I just found out tonight that I misspelled Wilbur's last name. It should be Glidwell.

Sorry Wilbur....
