Terry,

You have a virus in your e-mail program that is spitting out pedalsteel.us e-mails to many people using MY E-MAIL ADDRESS as the origin. I am getting swamped with nasty e-mails regarding unsolicited e-mails. You need to address this problem very quickly because it is now my problem. I don't have time to hunt down your-email address, and I know you scan the forum, so that is why I posted here. Sorry for the urgent and pissy tone, but you need resolve this!

thanks,

Drew Howard

I've had a MacAfee online email filter from my ISP BOTH ways for over a year. More than once, I've been told my name was on the "sender line". Not possible.

One easy way to check yourself for "worms" (I know Gene is old enough to remember ("mom's flashlight") is to go to your email addy book and make a false entry for AAA@aaa.com. If you DO send out worm stuff, it'll come back undeliverable ROTB, and you'll know.

A virus has been unleashed. The e-mails you are receiving are in fact probably NOT coming from where they say they are. Terry has little or nothing to do with this-he's a victim just like everyone else. The emails you are receiving are in many cases copies of something sent to someone else.

There is nothing, repeat NOTHING you can do at this point but delete the email. Run a virus scan. Stomping your feet and screaming for Terry or someone to FIX IT OR ELSE is pointless. This would have happened whether Terry sent out a mass mailing or not. Chill. Right now sending more email just makes it worse.

I've never understood the rage some folks get into over spam anyway. The minute you go online your privacy goes out the window. As I said in another post, at least it ain't porn.

unfortunately......

This is one helluva virus! Not only does it send out mass emails, it seems to spawn excessive posts too! Y'all need to back up offa Terry. Delete the emails and get on with life.

C'mon Perry, lighten up a bit. I'm getting them too. All I do is delete them. I know this isn't any fun for Terry either. Let's cut him a little slack.

Too many people making comments about viruses who don't know anything about them. Yes the email address the email claims to have been sent from isn't true, but the header shows where it's really coming from.

Not Terry's fault? Sorry Terry and friends, nothing personal at all but you really think anyone who uses computers and email lists as part of a business and doesn't bother to spend $25 for an antivirus program isn't to blame? That is irresponsible, but unfortunately not really rare. Alright, now Terry knows he needs antivirus software. I hope he gets some. By the way, getting antivirus software after you get the virus is really locking the barn after the horse is already out but better late than never. Some viruses make it very difficult or impossible to install antivirus software, if you've already gotten the virus. You can find help with that at norton.com or mcafee.com.

Nowdays, anyone who uses email and doesn't have antivirus software on their computer is just asking for it, like driving in a big city with no car insurance. You wouldn't do that, would you? You get a virus and you don't have an up-to-date antivirus program? Yeah, it's YOUR fault.

I'm not saying "stone him!", let's just cut the politically-correct-public-school-system "it's nobody's fault, it's all good" crap.

Get antivirus software or don't complain. You can't stop people from emailing viruses or anything else to you, but if you don't have antivirus software and you get a virus running on your computer, you're as much to blame as the person who's sending them.
