Hey all,
I've been away from the forum for awhile,
and caught this long one on TYC that has been locked up, but if ya'll want to hear a truly great rendition on steel of TYC [and I don't know who he/she is] check out Allison Krause's version.
Not sure how old it is or what album/CD it's on, but she is singing/playing along with Suzy Bogguss, Kathy Mattea, and of course, CSN.
The steeler does Garcia justice by capturing many of the nuances and at the same time distinctly makes it his/her own version.
The entire song is really a jewel.

This came up a long time ago and I believe it was none other than Paul Franklin on that rendition. |

I believe CSN&Y and Suzy Bogus were also on that recording, and maybe Kathy Mateia... |

Lyrics? LYRICS?? We don't need no STINKIN' LYRICS! They only obscure the steel lines...

I'd like for someone to "refresh my memory" w/ the original version. Is that possible? (wav / mp3?)

Actually, I just listened to the new version for the first time and really enjoyed hearing this song again after so long. It was particularly touching to hear Graham Nash come in and sing the second verse. Well done, all around. |

There's RealAudio clips of the original at "Rebel and Rickys" site, Smiley. [This message was edited by Joey Ace on 19 February 2003 at 05:08 AM.] |

Well,
it doesn't surprise me that I missed it the
first time around, a long time ago.
A lot of things elude me now. |

I just saw a picture of the "Earl Scruggs Banjo" with Earl's likeness inlaid in it.
(Thanks Mike P.)
Maybe we need a "Jerry Garcia Steel". |
