I once saw a video of a live Dire Straits concert where Paul was on steel. Does anyone know where I can buy this video and what the name of it is? I have the "On Every Street" CD of Dire Strait with Paul on it but I'm not sure that's the name of the video. Is there any other Dire Strait CD's with Paul on them?

Gaylon- it's called "On The Night" and it is great- I know that I've seen it on ebay but don't know where else you might find it- it is also available as a "VCD" (video cd) but your dvd player needs to have the capability to play it~~ |

I was fortunate to buy it a few years ago and it is one of the finest concert videos I have ever seen. The camera coverage on each musician is top notch and PF's solos were incredible. The musical content is a cut above the norm and made a fan out of me. I am getting ready to burn it to DVD to protect it for all time. |

I went out and bought it because of this thread... I just received mine from Amazon (one of the vendors for 9.99 +s&h) 2 days ago.
Paul Franklin does a super job of blending with Mark Knopfler. Just goes to show how well a well played steel can sound with rock/pop music. It added so much, and really showed off the steel. Mark gave Paul plenty of room!!! and the camera work was great.
I have already watched it twice. Very well produced. 5 stars!

Gaylon,
I have a CD that is a few years old - that is a rather obscure recording of Dire Straits. However, they are listed as The Notting Hillbillys. Give it a listen, it has Paul all over it - great licks.

Just for the record...
The Notting Hillbillies were actually Mark Knopfler and Guy Fletcher (from Dire Straits) plus Steve Phillips and Brendan Croker, who are both established (though less famous) musicians in the blues/roots field in England, and not coincidentally, old friends of Knopflers from pre-Dire Straits days... And yes, it is a great, mainly acoustic-sounding album. I believe it was the first Knopfler/Franklin collaboration - apparently Paul F was recommended to Knopfler by Chet Atkins.

I was one of the lucky that got tickets to Dire Straits world tour “On the night” concert at Gentofte Stadium in Denmark. I also have the video and it brings back memories of a fantastic concert. |
