I felt like a junkie stumblin' into an opium den today when I went to my mailbox

My long wait for a Bruce Clarke restoration of Sol Hoopii is finally over ... "8 famous 1938 electric steel instrumentals and 9 rarely heard items drawn from his catalog of mid-30's radio transcriptions" ... Radio Sol ...

Marvelous !!!!!

If that wasn't enough ... another package contained the first of Cumquat's "Lani McIntire" CD's. This one When Hawaii Calls "focuses upon his recordings with Bobby Nichols on steel (1937-Cool". Pre-war "Dance Band" music at its finest

If that wasn't enough, Mr. Clarke threw in some "preview" tab/chord charts for a "Sol Hoopii Practice Kit" that he will be producing soon .... and some photos of my "heros" for my music room. What a guy !!!

Gotta go "absorb" these now ... They won't appear on his site just yet ... but email 'em and they will set you up !!!

Cumquat Records

PS. The cover art on "Radio Sol" will knock you off your stool ... its really

24 hour review:

Although I have lots these songs on various CDs and tapes ... these versions are "new to me" :

1) Fascinatin' Rhythm (I did have this one)
2) Hula Girl
3) 12th Street Rag
4) E Meleana E
5) Farewell Blues
6) Palolo
7) Stack o Lee Blues
Cool Pulupe
9) My Hawaiian Queen
10) Wang Wang Blues
11) Come on Nancy
12) Hilo Hanakahi
13) Hula Blues
14) Henehene Ko' aka
15) Twilight Blues
16) A Flower Lei
17) Aloha Oe Blues

"Electrifying" ....

The big surprise (to me) is the Lani McIntire. The "Big Band" treatment of the songs may not be everyone's cup of tea ... but Bobby Nichols is AMAZING.

His "interplay" with the other instruments is down right scary and talk about single string playin'

Bob Nichols is relatively neglected, I feel, but his sun shines as brightly as Sol Ho'opi'i. Bob's playing on the two tangos La Rosita & La Camparsita sold me long ago.

As Maxwell Smart would say "Sorry about that Chief" ... "Electro Sol" was just the name I tagged onto this project before he had it finished ... it is one in the same.
