I'm self taught (or is it distraught) and trying to figure out how to make that wonderful haunting descending vibrato sound that brings tears to your eyes. When I do it, it sounds like Katherine Hepburn singing Blue Bayou. Any hints? |

Thankyou gentlemen...that's exactly what I mean. The Shiver...maybe if I strip down to my skivies, open the windows and turn the air conditioner on, I can get enough shiver to sound right. I could do it with my right hand much better...but it's otherwise engaged.
Thanks.

Gene,
Does that account for the pained look on one's face.
BTW is that you or "H"?

Gene,
And I do appreciate it. I guess my question was kind of like "How do you get to Carnegie Hall?" Practice, Practice, Practice. I'm trying to figure a lot of this stuff out without a mentor to show me how.

I am in the same boat, a newbie trying to learn some tricks of the trade. After a lot of listening, I "think" that the bar is being slid back and forth as opposed to rolling back an forth. Would that be a correct assumption? Or is it a combination of both?

Definitely a combination...rolling (for the slow stuff), and sliding (on the fast stuff). Ya gotta do 'em both! |
