I recall years back that Bud offered the rhythm tracjs for his "South Sea Island Magic" album. Does anyone know if they're still available and how I can order them? Thanks, Dave |

Dave
Go to Bud Tutmarc's web site. Actually it is Marc Records. Try www.marcrecords.tripod.com
This site lists a "slug" of his recordings. If you scroll to the bottom of the page there is a link to "other recording by Bud"
There is also contact information. I didn't see any mention of rhythm tracks, but you might contact him/them for more info. Good luck! I really like his "stuff"! |

I tried all of the above links but none of them worked. Does anyone know if Bud has an e-mail address?
Thanks, Dave |

The last e-mail address I had for Bud is: Optut@aol.com Bud suffered very serious health setbacks a few years ago. From what I have heard, he is coming along much better. He's a great guy, a wonderful sense of humour. Everyone of his albums (and there are many), are produced to perfection. Bud has always played a 6 string steel guitar (made by himself), using the C#m tuning. It was my pleasure to play some of the bass parts in the rhythm section on his album, "To You Sweetheart, Aloha" which was recorded in Honolulu. Kurt Kaiser was the musical arranger for that production. [This message was edited by George Keoki Lake on 31 July 2003 at 09:43 AM.] |

You are right Keoki, Bud surely is a great musician. I've never had the opportunity to meet him, but I love his music. It is interesting to me that he always stuck with one tuning. I am glad to hear his health is doing better. I will try to e-mail him at the address you provided, thanks again

Hi All --
Bud did put out a series of trax in the 80's
which were basically Hawaiian -- they were good -- I bought them all, about 8 or 10.
About Bud -- as recently as last week, Bud has been in the Hospital with a recurring heart condition. He had a stroke a few years ago and was on the road to recovery but recently in the past year, things changed. As I write, I don't know what his condition is but I do know that whatever condition, his spirit is very high. His recordings and Steel Playing is of the highest quality. He primarily played C#min but also did some C6th and B11th work. He is a diciple of Sol Hoopii. He knew him personally and revered his talent. His father, Paul Tutmarc, was a steel guitar teacher in the Seattle area and also personally knew and worked with Sol Hoopii. I think Bud has about twenty-plus recordings available and perhaps the rhythm trax.
Bud's address is: 3514 Inverness Dr, NE
Seattle, WA, 98115 3961
Ph: (206) 525 5502
I do not know his e-mail address.
Good Luck and Aloha no --

Thanks, I never knew Bud played any other tunings. I wish I could have heard them. As far as I know, all his albums are in the C#m tuning.
I'm saddened to hear of Bud's heart condition. I hope he will recover. My own mother had a stroke back in 1989 at age 53, she never walked again. She passed away in August of 2001, she suffered greatly in the years before her death due to two leg amputations and a broken hip (as well as various other problems). It's no joy growing old when your health fails you. Anyway, my heart goes out to Bud.

Warren, mahalo for the update on Bud. I had no idea he was back in the hospital. Last time I spoke with him, he was quite cheerful. We can only pray for his recovery. (When he had the heart attack, he had the stroke at the same time!)
Another thing, in all the years I have known Bud, (he and his wife Opal were our house guests for a week a number of years ago), I never once saw him deviate from the C#m tuning. I often wondered why he didn't play in F#9th which is similar but has a nicer melodic sound.
Keep Bud in your prayers. He's a great guy! |
