Just received my Sept issue of Acoustic Guitar Magazine, and lo and behold, none other than "The Lord of the Links", the creator of "Threadzilla", "The Prince of No Peddlers", "The Rajah of the Resophonic", "The Emperor of Open Tunings".......enough or should I continue?
ok, Andy Volk has a very informative feature article and overview of non pedal acoustic and electric steel guitar.

BTW, I don't have the magazine in front of me, but I believe I saw a pair of Lapdancers pictured in the article?

The book should be available at Amazon, Barnes & Nobles & Borders by late Fall (if Adobe can ever tell me why InDesign crashes every time I try to generate the index.) |

Hey Andy, If it's not to late, I think you'd be better off NOT running that topless photo of Martha Stuwart playing your Ricky Frying pan on the cover of the book. Marketing is very important but.....and wearing only a G string? I hope it's flat wound for her sake
also, I just returned from the news stand, and they still don't have the Sept. A.G. issue, so I have not seen the article, or my Lapdancer picture. WHaaaaa :-0 |

Thanks everybody. Your comments are much appreciated. It was kind tricky to cover all the ground (history, instruments, technique, etc.) AG wanted me to cover in 1500 words. I expected the web URL's after the article instead of being embedded inside. Oh well. I'm pleased with the way it came out and glad people like it.
Larry - Phyllis' guitar is a stunner! How does it sound? The engraved gold hardware reminds me of the gold artifacts that Mel Fisher recovered from the Spanish ship, Atocha, down in Florida about 15 yeas ago.
David - your photos look great. the book is in the final editing phase now. |

I sat down with Phyllis's guitar this past Dallas show. It's a great, great sounding guitar.
The sound is well balanced and clear. Clear to me is good separation. It has a more mellow and warmer sound (without being muddy) to it as compared to a spruce top.
Maurice Anderson showed us how good it sounds when he played it at the 2002 show. |

Andy, Howard said it precisely - exceptional tone & clarity. It's probably the sweetist mellow "reso" sound that "my" ear has heard in a resonator. We didn't know what to expect from an all Madagascar box when we were putting it together with Carroll. We were looking for beauty & hoping for a good tone - what a surprise to get both.
Reece Anderson is the one that got us hooked on Benoit reso's, so it was a pleasure to hear the Master perform on it at the Dallas Show. He sure made it sound sweet.
As for the gold, Carroll got it from my teeth & old class ring. |
