Just got my copy of the latest Sacred Steel CD, None But the Righteous: The Masters of Sacred Steel. It's a 17-track compilation of some of the best of the first six Sacred Steel albums, selected by John Medeski of Medeski, Martin and Wood. Great album! For anyone who hasn't yet discovered the Sacred Steel sound this is the perfect introduction, with some of the finest tracks by the Campbell Brothers, Aubrey Ghent, Sonny Treadway. Willie Eason and others. Like all the Sacred Steel albums, it also includes some terrific photos by Bob Stone, as well as a very entertaining essay by Bob about how he first discovered and helped popularize this amazing musical form. The album's on the Atlantic subsidiary Ropeadope, so it should make its way into most record stores. Highly recommended! |
