Robert Randolph's performance last night at the ACL taping was so inspiring.
This young kid sat down at his 13 string 7x5 single neck steel and started "ripping off" Johnny Winter licks and then Albert King and then Eric Clapton and then Stevie Ray Vaughn... and when he started channeling Hendrix it was unbelievable! The energy coming thru this young man into his instrument was amazing.
He has completely broken the mold for pedal steel guitar and taken it to a whole new level of expression.
Do not miss the opportunity to experience his live performance if you get the chance to do so! |

Kerry' did you find out who he was ?I've been making a lot of noise to whoever will listen to me that we need someone other than
the "Famous" stars at the conventions. Nothing wrong with them, but I can hear them anytime I'm willing to buy their CD. I want to hear those who are not so famous. I think maybe some of the best are still to be heard.

Here is an excerpt from the ACL brochure handed out at Monday nights taping of "Robert Randolph & The Family Band".
Earlier this year they released "Live at the Wetlands", which has received both critical praise and fan adulation. The "New York Times" wrote Randolph is "one of the most original and talented pedal steel guitarists of his generation" and "The Los Angeles Times" wrote "the steel guitarist has been generating a different kind of a ecstatic praise, picking up comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughn, Duane Allman and even Jimi Hendrix. |

That's some great playing. It sounds like he's flat-picking the steel. Anyone know? |
