I'm in Seattle this week, and last night I caught Forum members Dan Tyack and Orville Johnson at the Tractor Tavern. It's a funky little venue tailor made for casual music events.

The opened with a set of "dueling dobros". The contrast between their styles made for some very interesting interplay. Plus, how often do you hear two dobros with no other instruments?

Then they brought out the band (6 pieces) and played a two hour set of electric Sacred Steel-influenced music. Dan is the bandleader, and his Franklin was center stage.

This was a great show, one I'll never forget. It was fairly loose (the bass player was new to the band) and experimental at times. Orville played rhythm and slide guitar and sang, and everyone had ample opportunity to solo. There was a real Hammond organ with Leslie, and another singing guitarist playing a Strat through a Boogie. Dan's solos were sensitive and exploratory and times, wild and rockin' at others.

Dan's one of my favorite players. It was a real treat to see him "in his element".

Also, I'm bringing back some copies of Orville's new CD, "Slide and Joy". It will be in the catalog at $16.

Thanks, guys, for a very enjoyable evening.

Now I gotta get to work. Bye.

Yep... this is a quaint place which clearly lives up to the "Tavern" name. I got to see Dan and his barefoot, demented style of playing there a couple of years ago. It was great fun and a nice change of pace from the medical convention I was attending

Who's Dan Tyack? Maybe it will be easier for you to tell me "what he is not!"

I picked up some more copies of his blackened toast CD, so maybe you should order one, Frank.

Most recently, Dan has been touring with The Campbell Brothers.

I now have Orville's dobro CD in the catalog.

I've been listening to it while I work today. Great music!

Thanks, b0b! That was a loose night, in that the bass player was not only new, we had never rehearsed, and it's some tricky music to nail. But it was fun, as all gigs are with this group, which includes some of my favorite players to work with. Anybody who wants to listen to some very rough board mixes with this band can check out the samples on http://tyack.com/photos.htm .
