Here is my review of the book "The Early Days" by Terry Karl Wendt. I loved it!
The roller-coaster ride of the year! How does the music biz look from behind a pedal steel? Have you ever wondered what recording artists are really like in person? From the passion of just picking, to the intricacies of recording, mastering and re-mastering, Terry Wendt takes you on a rare behind the scenes journey. He has a unique opportunity to take you inside of the life and times of a steel guitarist/producer in a way no one ever has! From his Nashville dream gigs, to the bottom of life's heap, his optomistic attitude about it all is catching! Playing for country greats such at Jimmy C. Newman, Jeannie Pruitt, and a host of others, Terry tells of his love for the greatest instrument of all! He takes you inside putting together Shania's first road band and being her road manager. What is her favorite instrument? Life couldn't be better? But.......
He takes you into the studio in great detail, mentioning names you well know. He starts a record company. He sells windows and delivers pizza. He also finds the love of his life!
He also shares his philosophy of life and God.
My first action, when I got my book, was to look at the pictures!
While reading the book, I kept referring back to them, as it made the book come to life! My personal favorite is a picture from the Opry stage of Terry, Weldon Myrick, and Sonny Burnette playing triple steels! I will bet that it is one of his treasured moments!
This is a book for everyone! Especially steel players, because it is from the perspective we are familiar with. He has lived many of our dreams. He has had it all and lost it all. And how are things now? Well.....you've just got to read the book!

I just started this book yesterday.
I gotta agree it's required reading.
I also agree the pictures make it come alive.
I think a sound track would also make it come alive.
Guess what? There's audio at http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/151/steel_samples-terry_wendtw.html
There's even a Shania rehersal there!
Thanks Terry!
I'll have more to say after finishing it.
I gotta a feeling you're in for another great review.

I read "The Early Year" written by Terry W. I will start to tell you that I first meet Terry in St Louis back in -79. We (I have two of my freind comming along with me) where riding from St Louis to Nashville with Terry. Because I was over there for to be at Jeffran College for a week (maybe he need help to drive back to Nashville, he hade been jamming "all night"). Terry help us out with a few things, so is very helpfull, open minded and a VERY good steel player. He write he have jamming with some of my heros. 12-15 years ago Flaco Jimenez was over here in Sweden at Falu Folkmusic Festival, Terry have jam with Flaco (I am born in that city Falun, live 115 US mile from there today ). On the ride to Nashville Terry ask me of ranking list of steel player and Sneaky Pete is on a high posision on that list, Terry have meet Pete Kleinow, I don´t. It looks to me that Terry have play or jamm with every one in the biz. I am proud to knowing Mr T K Wendt. For the last year we have Weldon (-99), Lloyd (-00) and Russ (-01) fo seminars. I have asked them about Terry "Oh yes that kid". Will wish you and your family the BEST of life. And to the rest of steel player, GET THIS BOOK.
