Bob, it was not Mac. He retired from picking out in the early 70's. The name of the club was the West Texas Club.
Could have been Glenn Andrews, but I am not sure.
I will go through my old list of local players and see if I come up with anyone.

Ray,
In 1985 that was Randy Sorrells at The West Texas unless he had the night off. Are you sure the guitar was not a beautiful dark sunburst lacquer push pull Emmons?
Randy is still working with Montgomery Gentry and lives somewhere aroung Nashville.
E-mail me.
Farlow, you left Bill Nicholson and the amazing Garland Nash off your list!

Ray,
There is a topic called "Pickers On Broadway In Nashville" under Music that talks about Randy and has a link to a photo. Check it out.

I played the West Texas gig back before Randy, and followed him at The Buckboard up in Smryna. He's a fantastic stylist, lots of Emmons vibe... Randy had a terrible car crash on the way home from the Buckboard gig some time back and almost didn't make it through. His recovery was long and tough but he's back playing as well as ever. A great guy to boot. |
