Hi all. I've just joined this forum. I'm not actually a pedal steel player, but I've been a slide guitarist for 40 years and I always wanted to play steel. I may yet take it up.

I'm Canadian, but I moved to Australia in '75 and I've been playing here ever since. I'm known as one of the best slide players DownUnder and I've played on countless album tracks, TV commercials and movie sound tracks. I moved from Sydney, the center of the music biz down here, to Brisbane a few years ago so I'm not quite as busy as I used to be in the session domain, but I play regularly and I also became very involved in the Internet about 5 years ago. I sell PlaneTalk -- The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book from one of my sites, a comic strip approach to teaching the layout of the fretboard, and another site, Guitar for Beginners dot Com, attracts up to 900 visits per day, or at least did until I had to charge a small fee to get in. I couldn't afford the hosting and bandwidth anymore.

I now live at Tamborine Mountain, a beautiful sub tropical plateau just south of Brisbane (read all about it at another site my partner and I put together for our community http://www.tamborinemountain.net ). The first night we moved here we heard the sweet sounds os a pedal steel floating through the balmy air. Turns out the new neighbour is a pedal steel guitarist. He's right into it and I'm going to get him to show me some stuff.

A while ago I did a gig with a local country rock icon, Brian Cadd. He'd also hired a wonderful pedal steeler called Wayne something, an amazing player from The Flying Burritos. Man. could he play!! Can anyone tell me what his last name is?

Anyway, nice to be here, and if anyone's interested in my music, go to http://mp3.com/kirklorange

Cheers,

Kirk

Wow! You know Gerry? Where did you meet him? I guess you already know that Peppermint Patti is our sister.

I like your joke, but I hate to say it, I've heard it before.

I work for a recording studio here in Montreal called Listen Audio, and my boss knows Gerry and his wife. Gerry has told me about you. It's a small world!

Aha. Is George (Buddy G) your boss, or has he moved on? Andy Cowan (do you know him) and I put some stuff on tape there a million years ago when George first opened Listen. He (George) used to live between Crescent and Mountain Streets and I used to play at The Sir Winston Churchill Pub. We'd get together at his place between sets and get up to no good. Say hi to him for me.

Yeah, Queenslanders are like Cane toads, before too long they're everywhere! (hee hee)

That'd be Wayne Bridge who was with the FBBs in the latter days. He's on the 'Sons Of The Golden West' CD from 1999 which is the last Burritos set as I understand it.
