Here on Ascension, besides US Armed Forces TV, we also get 2 live networks from Brasil, one from Rio and the other from Sao Paulo. On the Sao Paulo channel everynight at 10:15 pm Greenwich Meantime, there is a variety show called Super Positivo. While I don't speak a single word of spanish or portuguese, I do like the, shall we say "scenery". However, last night a Brasilian country band was on and sure 'nuff at the left side of the stage was a pedal steel. It was a pretty good show, the steel was unique but enjoyable. The guy was playing some type of single 12 with 3 and 4. I couldn't quite make out the brand, but I suspect it was some non-US product just judging from the logo. It looked good and had a pretty good sound. What was really neat was that he was the featured player and the audience (mostly older teens and 20's and mostly young ladies) really was into the whole band.

Just FYI from way down here!!!

I couldn't agree with you more! Brazilian "scenery" and steel guitar, it doesn't get any better than that.

A few years ago, they took a worldwide poll as to what country had the best looking people. Brasil (or Brazil to the Americans) won it hands down. I was there about five years ago and I heartily agree with the poll. And this may outrage some folks but a lot of the reason is that there's simply no color line in Brazil. Mixed-race parentage creates some outstanding results.

Steel guitar content: I remember sitting in an open air restaurant in Fortaleza and all of the sudden my ears perked up when I heard some pedal steel in the background Muzak. It wasn't country but it was clearly E9th. I have no idea what it was.

I really think that if the Brasileiros were to adopt the steel guitar into their music (as have the Sacred Steelers), we'd hear some phenomenal music. One thing I noticed is that where here in the U.S., your average guitar strummer on the street plays three or four open chords, their counterparts in Brazil always seem to use chord changes that smack of the works of Antonio Carlos Jobim or Luiz Bonfá. My ears certainly get tickled by that.

it's great readin threads like this one and from so far !
i've often wondered why the Steel is'nt present in Brazilian Musik.
Considering what they could do with it,
it'a shame they haven't adopted it.
i'll agree that it would be phenomenal if they did.
