Has anybody ever heard of a player named Jim Baker?
The reason for the question is my wife just came in from shopping and handed me a record album entitled "A Steel Guitar Christmas", artist - Jim Baker, which she bought at the local Salvation Army store. It was put out by Power Pak Records and apparently was also available as an 8-track. Record is in near pristine condition and plays beautifully.
Any info appreciated.

Graham,
I first met Jim in the early '70's. He was on a recording date at National Sound Studios in the building on Division where Faron Young had offices. He also had a 'single' with tunes called 'Moon Walkin'' and 'Here's Billy' which was a popular disc jockey theme song. Last I seen Jim was several years ago when he was playing the Long Hollow Jamboree.

Russ:
Thanks for the info. Also received an email from Tom Mortenson with a couple of links concerning Jim Baker. Seems he was involved in a band called Great Speckled Bird, which originated in Canada in the early 70's. I was curious about him as I have never heard of him before. The album sounds like a lot of non-pedal stuff but it quite nice to listen to, even in September.
