I just had Jason Lollar do a "number" on my Excel Frypan. He installed a replica of the original Rickenbacher 1.5" Frypan pickup. Now the Excel comes with a good pickup, but the horseshoe magnets are for aesthetics only---they are not really magnetized as on the original Rick Frypan. WOW! What a difference the replica of the original Frypan pickup makes. This new pickup is a joint effort with Rick Aiello (on this Forum) and Jason Lollar contributing. Rick manufactures the authentic style horseshoe magnets. Jason winds the bobbin and adjusts the poles in the bobbin to the strings. It really turns this guitar into an authentic sounding Frypan, with tons of sustain. And the replica pickup fits into the Excel like a glove! After all, it should, as it is my understanding that the Excel is made from the same casting molds as the original Rickenbacher. "Try it---you'll like it!"
