Keep those Goodies comin' Jeff. My guess is Joe Custino on steel too. He's a real favorite of mine. What album is this tune from ? One of the old Decca LP's ? Did Joe use a Stringmaster at some point in his career ? I've only seen photos of him behind a dark Fender Custom and a double National. Again, thanks.

Jeff,
Went digging and found my copy of "Let's Hula". The LP lists Ben Kalama, Joe Custino, Sol Kamahhele, James Keopuiki, Sunny Nicholas, Danny Stewart as the band, but doesn't say who's playing what...not too hard to guess who's doing what. And having said that, a lot of these guys could play just about ANY instrument... so who knows !?. Nina Keali'iwahamana vocals on six of the tunes. Great record.
Yes Jeff, you don't see photos of the island steelers playing told Fender "string throughs" very often. I've only seen shots of Joe Custino and Mel Abe playing them. In Mel's case a blonde Dual Pro.

Hey Jeff! YOU'RE RIGHT!
YOU wouldn't like it!! It's old traditional stuff, mostly done in the old traditional way, but you're right. Sorry I mentioned it.

Hey Rick....... I was listening to one of Dick Mcintyres recordings form Comquat Records, and it sure brings out that sweet early Rick frypan sound. I played the one that Hal Smith has, and everybody agrees that Hal's is the best sounding one around. It was one of Dick's.
