Has anyone on the Forum upgraded their Sierra lap steel pickup from the single-tone model to the 5-position pickup?

If so, how do you like the new pickup? What's different about it? How does the tone compare? Are you able to find the same tone on the 5-pos that you could get with the single-tone pickup?

Did you do the mod yourself? If so, how did it go?

Thanks.

Rick,

Why did you move on? You must not have liked the 5-position.

Like I said ... it was fun and a nice improvement (in providing options) ...

I actually bought it as a "test" unit ... I wanted to hear for myself what the "second generation" Sierras were offering ... without forkin' out too much $$$$...

Lets see if my "Mail Order Course" on ... Humility, Political Correctness & Getting along with others was worth it ...

In my opinion ...

A guitar has a "Signature" sound ...

It is the pickups job to bring out that sound .... ALL that it has to offer ...

In my opinion the George L 10-1 or 10-5 didn't do the Sierras justice ... I also believe they have held back the popularity of these WONDERFUL steels ....

Again, just my opinion ... but a well built, single coil pickup does the trick ... The 10-5's single coil options still sounded alittle muddy to me.

I agree with Rick. I just installed a Jerry Wallace True Tone in mine and to my ear, the sound is much improved both the clear tone and with overdrive. Mine was the first and Jerry now has the pattern to make them. Nothing like a good single coil pickup, they look cool too, like an old Emmons s/c.
