I've recently picked up a steady gig playing my 58 D8 Stringmaster. I gotta say it is a ball playing that thing. I tried doing the gig on my pedalsteel but the sound and phrasing just wasn't quite right.
Its been an education on how to really play the steel for me. I'm loving it !

A lot of times, for me on C6, the pedals just got in the way. |

I've been trying to fill the shoes of a great reso player named Henry Bogdon in a Hawaiian type band called "The Moonlighters". Also I've started bringing the Stringmaster out to other gigs.
As long as I was giving up pedals I figured I would drop the volume pedal also. I plug it straight into my old Deluxe and go bowling for notes.
I went to colege in my 30's and got my edumacation at a conservatory about how to right music good.

Good idea, it won't interfere with your poverty vows. |

And as long as you play steel, chastity won't be interfered with, either. [This message was edited by Stephen Gambrell on 04 February 2003 at 01:39 PM.] |

As far as tunings go, to make it easy I just took the 2 outer strings off a standard D10 tuning for the C neck. On the E neck I took the 2 high strings and the lowest string off the standard E9 and stuck a C# in the 3rd slot. That gives me a Fmag7/C6 tuning on one neck and an E13 on the other. I'm playing everything on the C neck with The Moonlighters at least until I get it more together.
We play every thurs night at 7:30 at Otto's on 14th between A and B. This thurs I was hired by the band with the 10:00 slot also. If my arm dosn't fall off (I've been having tendonitis problems) I'll be playing standards and swing type stuff at The Right Bank on Kent in Williamsburg as soon as I can get there. Most likely around midnight.

Herb,
... I was just starting to think that multiple necks meant more possibilities ... and you've confirmed just that.
